Everton fans are split on whether or not to make Andre Gomes’ loan move permanent

[ad_pod ]

Everton fans on Twitter are split over whether or not the club should turn Andre Gomes’ loan move into a permanent deal.

The Portuguese international arrived at Goodison Park on loan from Barcelona back in the summer, and has impressed with his composure on the ball and his passing ability in the blue of Everton.

In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…

One would assume that most Toffees supporters would want to see the 25-year-old sign on a permanent basis, but one factor that has been influencing their thoughts is the huge reported fee that the Spanish champions want for Gomes.

Marca have revealed that Barcelona could ask for more than €40m for the former Valencia man, a figure that would be a hefty one for Marco Silva’s side to splash on just one player.

However, given the uncertainty over Idrissa Gueye’s future, perhaps a permanent deal for Gomes could be seen as a necessary capture come the summer.

Let’s see what the Everton fanbase, who appear to be torn over the matter, are saying on Twitter…

Transfer Focus: Dybala an unnecessary expense for Liverpool

[ad_pod ]

According to Italian football media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are serious about signing Juventus striker and Argentina international Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window.

What’s the word, then?

The 25-year-old has been the subject of much speculation over his future in recent weeks.

Dybala is a versatile left-footed forward who can operate in virtually every position in the attack, be it leading the line or dropping back into attacking midfield and more, making him an attractive prospect to most teams and leading to him inevitably being mooted as a potential successor to Philippe Coutinho by some sections of the Anfield faithful.

He first arrived in Italy in 2012 after leaving his native land and Dybala’s league record since then is a mightily impressive one, standing at 212 appearances, 77 goals and 44 assists.

Liverpool don’t need a Coutinho replacement

In spite of Dybala being one of the hottest attacking properties in world football, he’s just not needed at Liverpool and that’s why Klopp shouldn’t bother with what is likely to be a very expensive pursuit.

The Reds possess arguably the best front three on the planet, comprising of the famous trio Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, not to mention strong back-up options – Daniel Sturridge, wonderkid Rhian Brewster and Divok Origi.

Now, many supporters believe that a number ten is needed to supplement this supremely-talented front three to fill the Coutinho void after he left in January 2018.

But if there’s one area the Merseysiders clearly need to strengthen this summer, it’s certainly not the attack as it’s hot on the heels of Manchester City’s as the highest scoring in the league this season.

And if Liverpool decide that in certain situations they may need to use a No.10, a new one really isn’t required with Roberto Firmino more than capable of dropping back to fill in. Klopp hasn’t utilised Xherdan Shaqiri to his full potential this season either, but the Switzerland international is another strong option for that role.

While Dybala would be a nice, fancy, crowd-pleasing addition for Liverpool, they really should be looking at a different recruitment area in the summer transfer window – chiefly, adding goals and assists to Klopp’s central, rather than attacking, midfield options.

Lee Bowyer says one thing could keep Patrick Bauer at Charlton

[ad_pod ]Charlton could be set to lose a handful of key players this summer if the club don’t offer them new deals but, particularly in Joe Aribo’s case, Lee Bowyer remains confident that they will renew acquaintances for next season, when they will hopefully be playing Championship football. One man, however, looks certain to leave – Patrick Bauer. The big German has been keen on an exit since last summer and may finally head out the door at the end of the campaign, unless one thing happens, according to Bowyer.

What did he say?

Well, speaking in his pre-Bradford presser, the Charlton manager said:

The only chance

If, as Bowyer believes, promotion is the only chance Charlton have of keeping the centre-back, then there is a possibility that the former Maritimo man could remain in red next term.

The southeast London outfit are currently unbeaten in seven and are well into the play-off places with eight games to go; returning to the second tier is a real possibility.

If Charlton can do it, 6 ft 3 Bauer will undoubtedly be a big part of that at the heart of defence and, if not, there can be no complaints should the 26-year-old, who is linked with Blackburn Rovers, seek a move away from The Valley.

Clearly, there will be big consequences for the Addicks if they cannot follow the top two into the Championship and they could be in a worse place than they are now if they can’t – they stand to lose some of their best players if new deals aren’t agreed.

He’s our Beckenbauer: Sheffield Wednesday fans laud Hector as player of the season

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield Wednesday have been in phenomenal form recently with Steve Bruce steadying a ship that was heading through choppy waters under Jos Luhukay.

He’s guided them to 11th in the Championship, just three points outside the play-offs. But one of their best players, who has performed under Luhukay and Bruce has been Michael Hector. Fans were in agreement that he was their best player this season, reacting to a poll on Twitter as they were faced with a key decision.

A host of Wednesday supporters chose him as their best player in 2018/19 with one fan drooling over his displays, labelling him the Owls’ Franz Beckenbauer.

Another individual expressed that the club needed to sign him up, making reference to the fact that the defender is only on loan from Chelsea.

There were honourable mentions from some supporters for Steven Fletcher, Liam Palmer and Keiren Westwood.

The 26-year-old has been a rock for the Yorkshire club this term, playing 32 times whilst winning 3.7 aerial duels per game.

Appalling: Tottenham fans react to club’s Under-23 loss

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-23 side have lost four of their last six matches in all competitions – the latest of which came on Monday night.

Indeed, the club’s Under-23 outfit suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers Under-23s in the Premier League 2.

You could have been forgiven for thinking that the Tottenham fans have bigger fish to fry, though, as the first team prepares to welcome Manchester City to London for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

That is not the case, however, with a number of the supporters taking to social media to criticise their Under-23 side.

Only Swansea City’s Under-23 outfit have collected fewer points in their Premier League 2 section this season, whilst the capital outfit have recorded just five wins from 21 matches, which is poor when considering their credentials.

Huddersfield Town: Siewert must hand Jack Payne new deal in the summer

After a two-year stay in the Premier League, Huddersfield Town will be returning to the second tier after last week’s defeat to Crystal Palace confirmed their relegation.

Despite showing glimmers of improvement under boss Jan Siewert, a lack of quality compared to their other top-flight competitors has ultimately proved to be too much of a hurdle for the Terriers to overcome this season.

With the squad set to be overhauled in the summer, there are currently six players who have yet to agree new deals at the John Smith’s Stadium (via the Examiner). Whereas forward Laurent Depoitre is unlikely to stay at the club given his ineffectiveness in front of goal, it could be worth taking a risk on extending Jack Payne’s stay.

Currently on loan at Bradford City, the midfielder has provided a bright spark for the club in what has otherwise been a dismal season for the Yorkshire-based outfit. Although the Bantams find themselves bottom of League One and facing an almost-certain return to the fourth tier of English football in May, Payne has been individually impressive, scoring nine goals and providing five assists for his team-mates.

Giving the current state of affairs at Valley Parade, it is very unlikely that Bradford will be able to negotiate a permanent deal for the 24-year-old at the end of the current campaign and so he is expected to return to Huddersfield. If Payne continues to perform to a high standard in League One, he could build up the confidence needed to make the step up next season to the second tier with the Terriers after representing them in the division two years ago.

However, if Siewert decides to cut ties with the former Southend United ace, he is sure to attract interest from elsewhere when you consider the qualities that he possesses.

What do you think Huddersfield fans? Should Siewert give Payne a second chance to impress at the club? Or is time to let the midfielder leave in the summer? Let us know below.

West Ham fans agree with @ExWHUemployee; Nathan Holland deserves chance

[ad_pod ]

Reliable West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has called on Twitter for young winger Nathan Holland to be given an opportunity following a brilliant individual goal for the U23s against Derby County on Monday, and Irons fans agree with him.

The 20-year-old has been in decent form but hasn’t made a single first-team appearance this term, despite the trip to Manchester United on Saturday being the third time he’d been on the substitutes’ bench during the current campaign.

Manuel Lanzini played out wide at Old Trafford but was taken off with a groin injury, which may leave Manuel Pellegrini with only Felipe Anderson, Michail Antonio and Grady Diangana to pick from on the flank for the visit of Leicester City to the London Stadium at the weekend.

Diangana in particular has had plenty of opportunities this season but has often struggled to deliver.

ExWHUemployee clearly believes that it is time for another youngster in Holland to get his chance in the starting XI in the coming weeks, and the following Hammers supporters think he’s on to something.

While one said “chuck him in for the last few games of the season”, another said “he’s exactly what we need at the moment”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

A moment in time: Leyton Orient 8-2 Droylsden

If there’s ever a contender for the weirdest, most baffling match of football in the history of the English game, then Leyton Orient and Droylsden might just take the crown.

Last-minute equalisers, four red cards, and six goals in extra-time all culminated into what could actually be one of the weirdest games in the history of English football, and it wasn’t even that long ago when it took place.

A moment in time – Leyton Orient vs Droylsden, 2010

The date, the 7th December 2010; the venue, Brisbane Road. Leyton Orient welcomed non-league side Droylsden to east London after the two sides were forced into a replay in the second round of the FA Cup after a 1-1 draw in the previous game. What was about to happen next was something nobody could have predicted.

For starters, the visitors took a surprise with only six minutes on the clock through Ciaran Kilheeney, and things only got better for the Manchester-based side when Orient were reduced to 10-men after an awful challenge, get used to this theme, from Terrell Forbes.

Droylsden quickly made it 2-0 after the restart, and it was starting to look like the O’s would be on the receiving end of an FA Cup upset, but things yet again took an unexpected turn.

Ben Chorley brought the deficit down to just one 13 minutes from time from the penalty spot, and then the visitors found themselves with a man down after Nathaniel Kerr was sent off with a straight red for a rash challenge, giving Orient the manpower and quality to bag an equalising goal one minute from time.

Already this game had the hallmarks to be an FA Cup classic, and extra-time took the match into a whole new tier entirely. Droylsden went down to nine men shortly after the full 90 minutes, allowing Orient to yet again take advantage and put themselves ahead… by six goals.

Yes, you read that correctly. Orient went on a madness and scored six goals in extra-time, with Jonathan Tehoue and Scott McGleish both hitting hat-tricks to seal an 8-2 win for the east London side after going 2-0 down and only taking the match to extra-time with a last-gasp equaliser.

Few games can compete with the ridiculousness Orient’s famous encounter with Droylsden conjured up, and it is likely such a feat will ever be matched again by a team in England.

He’d be good: Wolves fans react to Domagoj Vida transfer report

[ad_pod ]

Wolves have had issues in defence recently but they could be about to attempt to solve them by renewing their early season interest in Croatian defender Domagoj Vida.

This is according to Turkish outlet Sporx who claim the Midlands side are keen on the no-nonsense centre back.

The report sparked reaction from the Molineux faithful on Twitter who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on a possible deal for the player.

There was a mixed response as one fan laughed at the fact another rumour regarding the 29-year-old had resurfaced. However, they did state they’d love Wolves to sign him.

Another individual tweeted that his price tag seemed a bit steep considering his age. A further fan joked that the Croat, who sports an interesting hairstyle, needed a trim.

Vida was one of the stars of the World Cup as Croatia reached the final in Russia last summer and could be the experienced central defender Nuno Santo is looking for.

He’s currently rated at £9m according to Transfermarkt but Sporx states that he would likely cost around €15m (£12.95m).

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Celtic need another striker, but is Silas Wamangituka the man?

[ad_pod ]

Celtic were linked with Paris FC striker Silas Wamangituka over the weekend as the club’s need for more striking options becomes clearer each passing week.

What’s the story?

The 19-year-old has impressed this season and Neil Lennon confirmed he was in attendance at Paris FC’s match last weekend.

According to Calciomercato, Celtic have offered £4.5m for Wamangituka.

As it stands Odsonne Edouard is their only recognised striker and though he has 14 goals this season, Celtic need more options up front if they are to see off the challenge from Rangers next season.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

That man however, will not be Wamangituka, who has scored nine goals in 27 appearances in Ligue 2, at least if Lennon is to be believed.

“It wasn’t him,” Lennon said after the Kilmarnock win. “But we are looking at players.

“And centre-forward is a position I would look at.”

Could and should it happen?

It seems Lennon is planning for next season even though there is no guarantee of him being Celtic manager next season.

And while Wamangituka is still young, his scoring record in a pretty poor league is not great and though Celtic are desperate for a striker they can definitely do better than the 19-year-old.

Pressure is growing on Celtic’s board to get some reinforcements in however after comments made by Hoops legend Chris Sutton criticising Celtic for been a “one-trick-pony.”

The ex-Bhoy was lamenting the fact that outside of Edouard the options up front are very limited, and Wamangituka’s power at 6 ft 2 would certainly offer something a little different.

Whether of not Lennon is being totally truthful about the move is anyone’s guess, but Celtic fans, do you think Wamangituka would be a worthwhile gamble at £4.5m? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
